Sharepoint SQL Agent service does not start and gives error when trying to start
KBA-01024
Problem
Under the 'Auto-started Services Not Running' alert section in the automated SBS 2003 Server Performance Report, you see the SQLAgent$SHAREPOINT service listed.  The service's Startup Type is set to Automatic, but it does not start.  When you try to manually start the SQLAgent$SHAREPOINT service, you get the following error: 'The SQLAgent#Sharepoint service on Local Computer started and then stopped. Some services stop automatically if they have no work to do.'
Solution

The following registry entry can be deleted, which should allow the service to start both on system start-up and when you manually start it.

Delete the Guid entry under the following registry key: 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/MICROSOFT/MICROSOFT SQL SERVER/SHAREPOINT/SQLSERVERAGENT '
