Creating a Web Server within IIS
KBA-01048
Summary
Follow the steps below to create a web server within IIS.
Additional Comments

1.) Open IIS

2.) Open the main node and then open the 'Web Sites' node

3.) Right click on 'Web Sites' and goto New then select 'Web Site...'

4.) Click 'Next' then enter a Description suitable for your website. Click Next.

5.) Leave the IP Address for this web site as (All Unassigned) and at port 80. For the host header enter a host header suitable for your website. For this article you could use test.easiintl.com. (Note that the website would not change for the host header. 'test' is the main thing you want to focus on when specifying a host header.)

6.) Enter the path of the folder on the server were the website files are located. Click next.

7.) Check Read and Run Scripts. You can change these permissions after the web site is created.

The web site should now be created properly.

Next are steps to add a DNS entry for the server.

1.) Go to Start->All Programs->Administrative Tools->DNS

2.) Open the main node and then open the 'Foward Lookup Zones'  node.

3.) Within this node should be differnent zones. If you see a zone with the main web site (such as easiintl.com) Jump to step 7.

If you don't see a zone that does not have a something.easiintl.com in front of it, Please continue with step 4.

4.) Right click on 'Foward Lookup Zones' and then click 'New Zone...'

5.) Click next 3 times then add a new zone name. Use the same zone name that you used as your host header. As in my example step 5: test.easiintl.com

6.) Click next 2 times then finish.

7.) Right click on the node you just created (or the node you saw in step 3 if you are jumping from there) and click 'New Host(A)...'

8.) If you created this node yourself, leave the name field blank. If you jumped from step 3, enter only the DNS part of the website address. For example 'test'. You will notice that it adds in the rest of the web site name under neath the Name box.

9.) Enter the IP address of the website

10.) Click 'Add Host'

The DNS should now be successfully created.

For the DNS changes to take effect, you may need to flush dns. To do this goto Start->Run and type in 'ipconfig /flushdns'
